PROCESS
For the Wood-Block printing magazine spread, I was provided with images and text to work with. I focused on selecting the most impactful images to highlight and identifying key sections of the article to emphasize. By calling out these elements strategically, I ensured the layout remained visually engaging and kept the reader’s attention throughout the spread. Formatting the text presented a challenge, as I needed to ensure it was easy to read, visually cohesive, and free from distracting design issues like rivers. The use of color contrast further helped to create hierarchy and draw attention to important quotes and details.
REFLECTION
This project allowed me to showcase my strengths in layout and typographical hierarchy while exploring the creative possibilities of editorial design. Drawing inspiration from years of reading magazines like GQ and Men’s Health, I found the process both enjoyable and intuitive. Designing the spread reinforced my confidence in using intentional design choices, such as color contrast and visual emphasis, to communicate effectively and create an engaging reading experience.
